New SASC guidance on the use of remote assessment in the identification of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

SASC are releasing new guidance today for assessors on the use of remote assessment in the identification of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). This supersedes previous guidance and should be followed from October 2026. The guidance is intended to support assessors to complete assessments remotely, both in practical terms and in their choice of standardised assessment tests. The guidance sets out professional standards and practical recommendations for assessors, addressing issues such as safeguarding, ethics, test selection, assessment environments, training requirements, and client agreements. This publication provides an important reference point for ensuring that assessments remain robust, reliable, and centred on the needs of individuals being assessed. We ask that assessors carefully review the guidance included from publishers, where permission has been granted to use assessments remotely. There is also a list for assessors of assessment materials where publishers have not given permission for them to use remotely, which therefore, should not be used in this manner.
To view the guidance document, see the link to the right of this page, or search 'Remote Assessment' on the SASC Downloads page.
