APEL routes open for experienced maths assessors

How can an experienced assessors of maths learning difficulties/dyscalculia evidence this formally?

The three Professional Bodies have opened APEL (Assessment of Prior Experience and Learning) routes for experienced assessors of maths learning difficulties/dyscalculia who hold an APC (Assessment Practising Certificate) with a focus on literacy/dyslexia, but have not completed a maths learning difficulties/dyscalculia qualification. Assessors who fall into this category should be able to meet the requirements of table 3: Knowledge, understanding and skills needed to conduct an assessment of a SpLD in mathematics which can be found in the SASC Maths Difficulties Guidance 2025, in the downloads section of our website.
Assessors are asked to formalise their learning and experience via the APEL routes by 31st December 2029, after which completion of a formal SASC accredited course will be required. More information can be found by searching 'APEL Route for Experienced Maths Assessors May 2026' in the downloads section of the SASC website.
