BDA Mentoring offers personalised, end-to-end support in assessment practice and report writing. Mentees benefit from an initial consultation, flexible mentoring and discussion before and after an assessment, detailed feedback on their assessment report, a SASC-approved online course, and guidance on further CPD. The package is particularly suited to new or less experienced assessors, or those returning to assessment practice after a break, providing a structured yet supportive opportunity to develop knowledge, reflect on practice, build confidence and strengthen professional skills.

Description
Our BDA Mentoring Package provides a supportive, structured opportunity to develop your assessment practice with guidance from an experienced mentor. It is particularly suited to new assessors, less experienced assessors, or those returning to assessment practice after a break.
You’ll receive:
- Initial consultation (30 minutes) to identify your experience, priorities and areas for development.
- One-to-one mentoring and professional discussion through a one-hour session covering up to two topics of your choice.
- Practical assessment experience, including the opportunity to undertake one assessment outside the SASC-approved process.
- Mentor discussion before report writing to reflect on the assessment and consider your approach to the report.
- Detailed feedback on your assessment report, supporting reflection and development of your professional report-writing skills.
- Follow-up discussion with your mentor to explore feedback, agree actions and identify areas for continued development.
- Access to a 2.5-hour SASC-approved BDA online course, providing structured, evidence-informed learning to complement your mentoring.
- Further CPD discussion (30 minutes) to help you identify appropriate next steps for your professional development.
The package combines practical experience, expert mentoring, focused feedback and structured learning, providing a supportive pathway to build confidence, strengthen assessment practice and develop your professional knowledge.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Develop greater confidence in assessment practice, professional judgement and decision-making through practical experience, mentoring, feedback and reflective discussion.
- Develop and enhance their knowledge of relevant SASC requirements and guidance, and consider how these inform assessment practice and report writing.
- Apply evidence-informed approaches to the planning, delivery and interpretation of assessment.
- Reflect critically on their own assessment practice and reports, identifying strengths and areas for further development.
- Evaluate and strengthen assessment reports, including the interpretation, integration and presentation of assessment findings.
- Identify practical strategies for improving the quality, clarity and usefulness of professional reports.
- Identify appropriate opportunities for ongoing CPD and develop a personal plan for continued professional development.
Course prerequisites
Delegates must hold an appropriate level 7 SPLD assessor’s qualification.
