Description
This course is designed to support practitioners in producing high-quality diagnostic reports that align fully with the 2025 report format and guidance issued by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). Grounded in the SASC Report Format 2025 and the SASC Guidance on the Assessment of Mathematics Difficulties and Dyscalculia 2025, the course provides structured, practical guidance on organising evidence, articulating a diagnostic outcome, and formulating clear, recommendations.
Writing a Diagnostic Assessment Report for Dyscalculia or Maths Learning Difficulties is an advanced professional development course designed to support specialist assessors in producing clear, compliant, and professionally robust diagnostic reports in line with the 2025 standards set by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC), specifically the SASC Report Format 2025 and the SASC Guidance on the Assessment of Mathematics Difficulties and Dyscalculia 2025.
The course provides in-depth guidance on structuring and presenting diagnostic assessment reports, integrating qualitative and quantitative evidence, and articulating sound diagnostic reasoning when identifying dyscalculia and mathematics learning difficulties.
Participants will examine how to present background and contextual information appropriately, justify the selection of assessment measures, interpret attainment and cognitive data accurately, and synthesise findings into a coherent profile of strengths and needs. Particular emphasis is placed on distinguishing dyscalculia from general mathematics difficulties, demonstrating clear and defensible diagnostic conclusions, and formulating evidence-based, proportionate recommendations that are directly linked to assessed needs in educational or workplace contexts.
The course also addresses professional accountability, ethical considerations, and quality assurance, enabling assessors to critically evaluate their own reports against current SASC requirements.
