Description

The session will cover:

  • the current JCQ position on extra time, including recent developments and the wider review of access arrangements;

  • the evidence requirements for 25% extra time and for amounts above 25%;

  • the different routes through Form 8 and Form 9;

  • the role of normal way of working and centre-based evidence;

  • the areas of processing and fluency that may be used within Form 8 Part 2;

  • circumstances in which particular assessment findings cannot be used to support extra time;

  • the relationship between JCQ evidence categories and current SASC diagnostic reporting;

  • the distinction between a recommendation in a Diagnostic Assessment Report and the evidence required for JCQ purposes;

  • the approval process through Access Arrangements Online and awarding body referral;

  • the position for candidates with English as an Additional Language.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

·       explain why EAL needs alone cannot provide evidence for extra time;

·       relate JCQ evidence requirements to their own assessment and reporting practice.

Course prerequisites

A basic working knowledge of diagnostic assessment and/or the JCQ access arrangements process is recommended. The session is particularly relevant to qualified specialist assessors and professionals involved in examination access arrangements.
