Description
This course is aimed at practising assessors who assess in the pre-16 age group or those working with adults who wish to further their knowledge of assessing in this age group. The course will broaden knowledge and understanding by considering a range of neurodiverse needs, incidence and effects of co-occurrence and how to identify dyslexia in this group of learners.
This course will explore a range of neurodiverse needs and explore how learners are impacted by those needs. It will consider co-occurrence with dyslexia and how this presents in terms of strengths and difficulties. There will be an overview of tests that benefit and challenge learners with complex needs and how testing needs to be adapted, whilst still following guidance. Assessors will have the opportunity to work through case studies to investigate how aspects of background information, quantitative and qualitative information are synthesised to form a diagnostic outcome. The course will also look at the recommendations made in the case studies and why they are chosen to suit the profile.
The session will include:
- An overview of Neurodiversity and the overlap of complex needs
- A close look at Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia and how they affect learners at pre-16
- Considerations/adjustments needed when assessing individuals with complex needs
- Case studies – how a diagnosis was reached and appropriate recommendations
Learning outcomes
- To develop an overview of Neurodiversity and the overlap of complex needs
- To know they key indicators of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia and how they affect learners at pre-16
- Know how to adjust the testing environment assessing individuals with complex needs
- Understand how a diagnosis was reached and why particular recommendations were made to suit the profile in the case studies.
