The neuropsychology of reading disorders: a framework for effective assessment and intervention: SASC Authorised. - 12 Nov 2025 to 12 Nov 2026: Patoss

Overview

Description

In this webinar, Dr Feifer, author of the Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR), will discuss reading processes and difficulties, including the framework underlying the FAR, and its uses from assessment to informing targeted interventions.

This workshop will examine reading from a brain-based educational perspective. The presentation will aim to differentiate “dyslexia” from other types of reading disorders, as well as to classify developmental reading disorders into four distinct subtypes. Using a neuropsychological paradigm, the presentation will discuss multiple facets of the reading process, including phonemic proficiency and awareness, phonological processing, orthographic processing, working memory, and executive functioning.

The Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR) battery, a diagnostic assessment designed to examine the underlying cognitive and linguistic processes that supports proficient reading skills, will be introduced.

Learning outcomes

Specific learning objectives include:

Introduce a brain-based educational model of reading by examining specific neural circuits that underscore phonological development, orthographic development, and reading comprehension skills.

Discuss four subtypes of reading disabilities and relevant intervention strategies to address each subtype.

Discuss the Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR) as a

means to both diagnose and remediate subtypes of reading difficulties.

Course prerequisites

The course will be suitable for specialist teacher/assessors, access arrangements assessors, and teachers wishing to develop their understanding of the underlying causes of reading difficulties
