    This is an in-person CPD day 

    The aim of this training day is to support specialist dyslexia/SpLD assessors to develop confidence, clarity and professional security when navigating current changes in assessment practice, including the new SASC report format, the Delphi definition of dyslexia, test choice, diagnostic reasoning and evidence-informed report writing.

    The day will provide opportunities for assessors to explore recent and forthcoming guidance, consider the implications for their own practice, and engage in practical activities relating to test selection, diagnostic decision making and report writing.

Description

The morning session will focus on tests and test choice, with Janet Goring from STEC and  our guest test publishers who will facilitate a hands-on test explorer workshop.

The afternoon session will focus on report writing, with Sally-Ann Morrison, Founder of Praxis CPD exploring finding your assessor voice in the 2025 format, with a practical workshopping based approach.

Learning outcomes

  1. Review current developments in dyslexia/SpLD assessment practice, including the transition to the new SASC report format and the implications of the Delphi definition of dyslexia.
  2. Consider how current and emerging SASC/STEC guidance informs test choice, evaluate whether their current test batteries remain appropriate and where gaps may need to be addressed.
  3. Explore tests via a hands-on workshop to understand test construct and usefulness of different assessment tools, considering age range, context and required areas of evidence.
  4. Consider the role of assessor voice and professional judgement in writing reports that are clear, individualised, defensible and useful to the reader.
  5. Identify actions for their own assessment practice, including areas for development in test choice, evidence gathering, analysis, reporting and professional confidence.
