SASC guidance relating to the assessment of specific learning difficulties (SpLD).
SASC provides guidance in order to promote good practice in the psychological assessment of children and adults. Individuals with neurodiverse profiles or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD and ASD can benefit from an effective assessment which is rigorous, comprehensive and appropriate.
If you have any questions about your test battery please check the Test List where there is substantial additional guidance. Assessment choices are made by the assessor in response to the profile of the individual as it presents itself and the purpose of the assessment. Whilst there are areas that must/can be assessed in the New Report Format guidance, it would not be possible for us to offer a guarantee that you have covered everything needed to address the profile of your client, as you will need to consider the circumstances of the individual being assessed alongside the SASC criteria. We always caution against overtesting whilst remaining thorough.
Regarding the development of new test editions, please direct enquiries to test publishers who will be able to give information about tests under development.
SASC provides guidance for SpLD assessors on the use of appropriate tests and the careful interpretation of assessment test results. See the links on the right-hand side for further information.
For further recent papers on assessment see SASC Annual Conference presentations by specialist researchers as well as STEC committee members.
