Our SASC 2022 Conference and AGM will be presented online over a series of days in June.

Dyslexia: a research update:
Joel
will discuss aspects of Section B of SASC's recent consultation paper on
dyslexia, including recent thinking and research regarding conceptualisations
of dyslexia and criteria for its identification. The usefulness of concepts
such as persistence, dimensionality, risk, resilience, developmental trajectory
and risk accumulation, underpinning a dynamic, dimensional model for
understanding developmental difficulties, including dyslexia, will be
considered.

Group Practitioners respond:
views from the third consultation phase of the SASC paper on literacy and
dyslexia:
Caroline will present the results of SASC's recent consultation on
its dyslexia paper, which invited responses, via a questionnaire, from
assessors and practitioners, relating to the preliminary draft of the paper.
She will discuss the implications of the outcomes of this survey, and other
separate responses to the paper. She will outline potential amendments to the
paper that will now be considered and discuss what future work needs to be
done. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the role and
purpose of SASC's work in this endeavour.

Group. SASC guidance (to
be published May 2022) on the assessment and identification of autism/autism
spectrum conditions:
Sue will
present and discuss SASC's most recently published guidance on the assessment
and identification of autism/autism spectrum conditions, which offers up to
date sources of information on autism for specialist teacher-assessors. The
guidance is designed to increase awareness of the needs of autistic children,
young people and adults and clarify the role of specialist teacher-assessors in
working with this group of people.

and Carol will discuss the Scottish pathway to assessment for dyslexia
in the light of the SASC consultation paper on the identification of and
effective intervention for literacy difficulties in children and adults, and
the implications for dyslexia.

Introduction to the Assessment Through Teaching framework in Staffordshire and

Sarah will describe how Staffordshire
and Warwickshire are working in partnership to implement an inclusive systemic
LA approach to meeting literacy needs. They will introduce the Assessment
Through Teaching framework they have pioneered in their local schools. This
will be an opportunity to find out more about how such frameworks for
assessment and intervention are designed to improve literacy skills for all
learners.

services in the London Borough of Wandsworth:
Janet
will present and discuss the model for assessment and intervention for literacy
(and numeracy) difficulties used in the service she manages in the London
Borough of Wandsworth. She will highlight pertinent issues raised in the SASC
consultation paper on the identification of and effective intervention for
literacy difficulties in children and adults, and the implications for
dyslexia.

pm BRIAN LAMB Visiting Professor of Special Educational Needs and
Disability, Derby University. The Implications of the SEND Green Paper
and Education White Paper for assessment, intervention, support and parental
engagement for children with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.
Brian
will summarise and discuss relevant sections of the government's recent Schools
White Paper and March 2022 SEND Review Green Paper, ‘Right Support, Right
Place, Right Time'. Brian will link this discussion to SECTION D of the SASC
dyslexia paper, on context and policy, which looks at the key political,
structural and economic factors that influence access to assessment,
intervention and support for literacy difficulties experienced by children and
adults, including those identified with dyslexia/specific learning
difficulties.
The conference events are free of charge to all SASC
members.
Note the sessions will all be recorded and made available to those unable to attend at the original broadcast time.
All who book will have access to recordings of the sessions for 3 weeks after the events. If you cannot attend on the day you should still book to be able to access the recordings after the event.
