NOTE RE ATS + CCET ROUTE
It has become apparent that the CCET route is an anomaly in that it does not ensure that applicants for the SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate have particular knowledge about SpLDs and their assessment. It was acknowledged that the CCET Level A provides excellent training in psychometrics and test administration. However there are additional areas required of candidates to meet the upgrade in knowledge and skills in synthesizing theory and practice in assessing SpLDs to qualify for an assessment practising certificate. Therefore those with ATS qualifications who take the CCET for the psychological testing input will have to complete an additional module to bring the combined training up to a par with others approved by SASC for this purpose.
It is proposed that those who follow the CCET route should include the study of a module that will ensure that SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate holders possess such knowledge. The new module will be assessed by APC holders who may be CCET Assessors and/or AMBDA holders, but will be approved by SASC and not the BPS.
SASC are in the process of drawing up the requirements for this additional module and a timetable for implementation so that those currently on CCET would not be disadvantaged.
We would advise candidates trying to plan their specialist teacher training that there are modifications to the ATS+CCET route to an APC underway which will involve an additional module of training to include synthesizing theory and practice in assessing SpLDs to qualify for an assessment practising certificate.
We do not have a schedule of release for these modules yet since they will have to be approved by SASC prior to offering. Details will be listed on the SASC website.
